The Internet Governance Forum (IGF)This is the official Web site of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), run by the IGF Secretariat. Its purpose is to support the United Nations Secretary-General in carrying out the mandate from the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with regard to convening a new forum for multi-stakeholder policy dialogue - the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
The Inaugural Meeting of the IGF took place in Athens, Greece from 30 October - 2 November. [New] Archives of the main session Webcasts are now online. IGF 2007 The Government of Brazil will host the 2007 IGF meeting. It will take place in Rio de Janeiro on 12 - 15 November 2007. Taking stock and the way forward The stock-taking session open to all stakeholders has now ended. A list of participants is available here . The full transcript of the meeting is available for download and the Chairman's closing remarks can be downloaded separately for easy access. Audio recordings of the interventions made during the stock-taking session are now available. Archives of the Webcast of the session will be made available in due course. The aim of the meeting was to take stock of the Athens meeting, assessing what worked well and what worked less well and make suggestions with regard to the preparation of the meeting in Rio de Janeiro. All stakeholders can still send the Secretariat their comments and views on the Athens meeting and make suggestions with regard to the preparation of the meeting in Rio de Janeiro by filling out our online form or downloading the form [rtf] and emailing it back to us at igf@unog.ch or posting their comments on our discussion section. All submissions are being posted on our contributions page. A synthesis paper of all contributions submitted has been posted on this Web site and is available for download. Dynamic Coalitions A number of 'Dynamic Coalitions', based on multistakeholder cooperation, emerged from the Athens meeting. As this is a significant outcome of the meeting, this Web site offers to provide a space for these coalitions. All Dynamic Coalitions are encouraged to send a short description of their aims and objectives to the Secretariat (igf@unog.ch). The description should also include a list of the coalition partners and if possible the planned activities between Athens and Rio. The Governments of India and Egypt offered to host the 2008 and 2009 IGF meetings respectively, while the Governments of Lithuania and Azerbaijan made a bid for the 2010 meeting.
